What is the ONE piece of advice you would give to have a happy, healthy dog?

Get the right dog at the right energy level for your lifestyle! What is the ONE piece of advice you would give to have a happy, healthy dog?
Spaying or neutering and LOVE.What is the ONE piece of advice you would give to have a happy, healthy dog?
Be consistent in all your training every day, every time.
Love. MY dogs live on love. amoung other things. Buthte main ingredient is love nad the rest will fall into line.
consistant training lasts for the life of the dog
make sure to give it plenty of love as well as exercise. Dogs love to please their owners, therefore give it plenty to do.
Consistent training, lots of excercise, proper food, and lots of love, attention, and affection.
treat him the same way you would treat your child.
Training (for the owner and dog)
Exercise is the first answer
love him or her
Get the dog that fits your personality or else you will never get along well no matter how much training you put into the dog

Even if you do research and think you have found the perfect dog for you, if you and the dog do not agree then nothing can help

I researched dog breeds for 12 years before I bought one and thought I finally found the one that was right for me, and physical wise he was perfect but we did NOT agree. Our personalities clashed badly on every scale. This dog was a toy dog.

It turns out the dog I though would be the worst for me turned out to be the best. An akita.
Take him to obedience school.
Lots of love and LOTS of exercise with some discipline (reasonable amounts) thrown in. Anywhere you are they want to be.
Exercise your dog and I don't mean letting him out in the yard. Walk him/her on a daily basis at least 30 minutes to and hour. This will do two very important things. 1) Develop a relationship w/ your dog 2) A ';tired'; dog learns and behaves better then an ';hyper'; dog.
