How did you lose it.... need advice please?
I own a health and nutrition business, and have taught health and fitness.

I wish you had included your current height and weight, as I don't have a guideline from which to work. Some young people think they are overweight when they really aren't, so I hesitate to answer too much.

That said, I lost 37 pounds in 1997 in preparation to do a beauty pageant. I started in January, and the weight was off by June. I have kept most of it off ever since then. I'm 55 years old, and have plenty of knowledge and experience with this.

Your goal, if you are truly overweight, can be broken down to about 2 1/2 pounds per week between now and then. That is very dooable for an overweight person, if you are consistent and don't get foolish with it.

First of all, you need to get away from the idea of starvation and dieting. The human brain needs glucose to function properly and when it's deprived of adequate amounts, you will find yourself with ';foggy thinking';, and imbalances in your body chemistry and hormones. That means impaired ability to do well on tests or in work. You don't want that. So what we want to look at is a lifestyle change that can give you permanent results.

First of all, let's look at eating:

You want to look at an eating regimen that is high in lean protein, high in fiber, and high in vegetables and fruits. Most fats are your enemy. Deep fried foods are your enemy: That means french fries, onion rings, fried chicken, fried anything, cheeses, ice cream, milkshakes, margarine. This stuff will slow your metabolism and cause your body to want to hold onto the calories.

Stay away from all soda pops. Instead, gravitate toward juices such as orange juice. Want a sweet treat that will take care of appetite? Hot orange juice microwaved in a mug with a mass of cinnamon is one of the greatest appetite stoppers on the planet and it's absolutely yummy!

Always eat a good breakfast. NEVER skip breakfast! You are going to need the energy to burn throughout the day. A good high fiber cereal with yogurt, honey and fruits gives you most of what you need. So can a sandwich of whole wheat bread with almond butter and low sugar jam with orange juice. Always eat a good breakfast.

Have a good, solid lunch. Eat something high in lean protein, try to get some green veggies in it and some fruit.

You can go light on dinner. A bowl of green vegetables, microwaved with a SMALL pat of butter and some salt and pepper can be good enough. Allay appetite with hot orange juice and cinnamon, or a mug of chicken or beef bouillon.

Make sure and use good quality, easily absorbable supplements, and add extra B12 - as much as 5000 mg per day for handling of stress and balancing out of the mood swings.

You need to get your metabolism up to burn the calories off of your body, and you can do that through exercise. The key is to get your heart rate to within 80% of maximum for at least 30 - 45 minutes, 3 - 5 days per week. You can break this down through a combination of cardio and strength training. This will also help your skin to go back easier so that it doesn't sag, and will build muscle tone. Muscle mass burns more calories than fat and you want your curves to be in all the right places - and that's done through a consistent exercise program.

If you plateau sometime in your program, don't get frustrated - your body will just be catching up to the weight loss. Just mix up your exercise program a bit to jump start the process.

I used this program to lose the weight in 1997 and follow it to this day. I almost never get sick, and have stayed in great shape. I wish the same for you.How fast did you lose 20-24 pounds? How did you lose it.... need advice please?
DO NOT starve yourself by going on a crash diet. It doesn't work, believe me! Sure, you lose weight, but you also lose hair and your ability to have kids in the future. Then once you do actually eat something, it turns directly to FAT because your body is trying desperately to store excess calories %26amp; food for energy because it thinks that its starving - And you end up gaining everything you lost, and then some!

Try eating more fruits and veggies in place of other fatty meals, like junk food, cookies, or high calorie meals. Like most people (I'm guilty sometimes!), you've probably brainwashed yourself into thinking that fast food tastes better than healthy food, but that's not entirely true! Try eating more grapes, clemintines, apples chunks in vanilla yogurt (good for sweet cravings!), blueberries, hummus (it sounds gross but it's really not, especially with Wheat Thins or Food Should Taste Good brand whole grain chips! I personally like garden vegetable or tomato flavored), granola, low-fat yogurt, low-fat string cheese, LITE whole wheat bread, 100 - calorie popcorn / kettle corn bags, steamed broccoli with a buttery garlic sauce etc. I also snack on South Beach Diet oatmeal chocolate chip cookies, they're good AND pretty healthy!

And eat SLOWLY. Take one bite at a time, chew completely, then take another bite. If you eat slower, you'll become fuller quicker, and you won't overeat. Drink a glass of water before each meal - You'll feel fuller faster and won't overindulge. Try to spread your meals out so that you're eating 5-6 smaller meals throughout the day - It keeps your metabolism up to speed.

Incorporate more exercise into your daily life. Take the dog for a 20 minute walk, do jumping jacks while watching TV, do laps around the block, or the house for that matter. Don't let yourself sit down for too long. If you can, get a gym membership. I use an elliptical for 30 minutes 5-6 times a week and it works great for me.

And don't eat out of boredom! It's a nasty habit to break, TRUST ME. Whenever you feel like eating, watch a movie with no commercial breaks so you don't have time to get up, call a friend, read a book or magazine, or get out of the house, away from the food.

And don't ';DIET';. Because the moment you go off your ';diet';, you'll regain the all the weight you lost quickly, believe me. Instead, make ';healthy living choices.';

I recently lost weight, about 20 lbs, and what really helped for me was planning my meals. I planned when and what I was going to eat, and made sure the calorie count was 1400. But never go under 1200! Remember, healthy weight loss is about 2-3 lbs a week. Whatever you do, don't let yourself stray from your plan. Write it all down or type it out and leave it up on your computer so you don't forget, that's what I do.

You'll never get to your ';ideal'; body by eating crap food and sitting around, no matter how much you want it to happen. It takes dedication to get the body you want! Make it like a game. How much weight can I lose? Prove it to yourself you DO have the willpower to get what you want.

But allow yourself a cheat day every now and then. Life is too short! If you restrict your body of all the ';good foods';, you will one day EXPLODE and eat everything in sight. Trust me!

One more thing: Once you do become thinner, DON'T think you can eat whatever you want now! You'll regain all the weight back, which is absolutely mortifying, especially after all the hard work to lose it.

Good luck! Hope that helps (:

OH, and sitting up straight burns more calories than slouching. Try it!
It took about 3 months, and the approach I took was what I consider a lifestyle change rather than label it a diet. Losing pounds the right way is difficult, and most people simply don鈥檛 want to make the sacrifices and lifestyle changes required to properly lose weight - and that is totally ok as long as the person losing weight admits this to themselves.

When I started my basic rules were simple 鈥?too not go hungry and simply replace all the crap I was eating with healthy meals. Overtime I would reduce my portion size; however, I did it gradually to allow my body time to adjust and not set myself up for failure. Now I have three meals a day with two reasonable snacks in between.

I found the best results in giving up simple carbs and switching to mainly protein, high fiber fruits, vegetables, and whole grains. Pizza, fast food, pasta, ice cream, soda, and treats were non-negotiable. They could not be eaten, period. I know this was extreme, but once you clean your body of crap you lose those cravings.

I can lose that amount in about 2 to 2 1/2 months. I exercised about an hour to hour and half a day and ate around 900-1000 calories and drank plenty of water and took a multi vitamin. Oh, and I exercised to richard simmons, billy blanks and denise austin. GOOD LUCK!!!!
